I’m Bob Pony, I live in San Jose, and I’m happy you’re here. This site is dedicated to the things that I find interesting, amusing, or just a bit confounding. Maybe you’ll find some of it interesting too. If so, welcome! If not, well as my Uncle Fred used to say, “You should try some more!” Make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss a thing.
California has been my home for over half my life now. It’s a marvelous place with warm winters, moderate summers, and as of late absolutely no water. It’s a long way from the Detroit suburb I grew up in, but I really can’t imagine living anywhere else.
I’ve worked in the tech industry for years, and have been in the right place at the right time to participate in some really great startups. The one you’ve probably heard of is TiVo. There are also a few that you’ve never heard of (and sadly never will). Back in my Michigan days I worked for General Motors and wrote assembly language code before people used C (BC?). In California I moved to Product Management where you wear a lot of hats, analyze stuff, and try to clear the path forward. So I’m a technical guy with a lot of product background.
I think you should hire me away from whatever I’m doing right now.
You’ll find this blog is largely about things I want to tackle before too much more time goes by – learning to draw, designing board games, building haunted houses, and dabbling in 3D printing. And maybe a bit less me-centric stuff too. I’ve never blogged before, so we’ll see how it goes. I hope you hang around to see what’s ahead!
Oh…the name. Wind the Frog. It’s from Toy Story. Right before they rescue Buzz with a Rube Goldberg plan Woody turns to his friends and shouts ‘Wind the Frog!’ And they wind up a mechanical frog to set the plan in motion. My buddy Steve and I use that phrase whenever we’re about to start even the smallest of tasks. We’re kicking things into gear! Wind the Frog!
